The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna "Jo" Gaines, with Mark Dagostino, is the true tale of how the husband-and-wife team, stars of the HGTV show Fixer Upper, built a life together in Waco, Texas. Starting with their first date, which was about 15 years before the book's publication in 2016, the couple traces the development of their romantic relationship and their home renovation business, Magnolia Homes. Along the way, they have four children, refurbish many "fixer-uppers", and launch a hit reality TV show. The couple met at Jo's father's auto shop where she worked as the office manager. Having recently finished college, 23-year-old Jo was still figuring out what to do with her life. One day Chip struck up a conversation with her outside the shop. He followed up the next day with a call to ask her on a date. Please note: This is a summary, analysis and review of the book and not the original book. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Susan Murphy. When Los Angeles novelist Tony Cohan and his artist wife Masako visited central Mexico one winter, they fell under the spell of a place where the pace of life is leisurely, the cobblestone streets and sun-splashed plazas are enchanting, and the sights and sounds of daily fiestas fill the air. Awakened to needs they didn't know they had, they returned to California, sold their house, and cast off for a new life in San Miguel de Allende. On Mexican Time is Cohan's passionate, evocatively written memoir of how he and his wife found a new home - and a new lease on life - in this charming 16th century hill town. In an alternately humorous and poignant narrative, Cohan recounts how they absorb the town's sensual ambience, eventually find and refurbish a crumbling 250-year-old house, and become entwined in the endless drama of Mexican life. From peso devaluations and water shortages to the local legend of a man who was "killed twice" and the romantic entanglements of their handyman, On Mexican Time captures the indelible characters, little tragedies, and curious incidents of life in a distinctive Mexican town. At the same time it enfolds listeners into the delights of one of the world's most desirable travel destinations.Brimming with mystery, joy, and hilarity, On Mexican Time is a stirring, seductive celebration of another way of life - a tale of Americans who, finding a home in Mexico, find themselves anew. 1. Otis Redding probably said it best in his rendition of "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right": An affair between two married people can sometimes be more, mean more than just sex and infidelity. It can mean everything to two love-starved people. Former Texas beauty queen JaiHonnah Reise Chapman, of African and Native American ancestry, is finally moving back to the United States after studying abroad for the last four years and completing her doctorates in architecture and structural engineering at Arcadia Laboratories, Politecnico di Milano, Italy. A new career opportunity awaits her in Washington, DC, away from her wealthy, powerful, and manipulative father, Jake Hawkins, and the brutal man she should never have married, international financier Calvin Chapman. The last thing she needs or wants at the beginning of her professional life is to have an unguarded moment with another woman's husband, her new boss. J. Roderick Baylor, known as the sports icon JRock, has shed the highlights of his illustrious, professional basketball career, and the lowlights of his disastrous marriage to Monique, a would-be starlet. Now he has custody of his twin five-year-old daughters, Shelly and Shelby, a highly successful construction and property development business, and loving, supportive family and friends around with which to build a new life. Little did he know that an illicit affair with another man's wife, his new employee, had the power to refurbish the torn parts of his life and erect a monument to the power of love. 1. Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Art - Architecture / History of Construction, , language: English, abstract: Sustainability is a universal phenomenon that addresses the need to protect the environment for current, as well as future generations. It deals with issues ranging from the vast social needs, infinite environmental requirements to massive financial obligations. As such, governments worldwide are taking precautionary measures to ensure that the current development policies are conforming to certain suitability standards. The standards, according to the United Nations, must be economic, socially acceptable and, most importantly, protect the environment; not only for current but also for future generations. Therefore, one of the strategies international bodies and local governments are using to promote sustainability is the introduction of standard measures in the construction sector. Currently, there is a global upsurge in construction companies that mainly address the concept of sustainability, and United Kingdom (UK) is no exception. For a fact, older buildings are being refitted to meet current sustainability drivers or codes while newly built blocks are required to meet these standards as well. For instance, offices, education centers, hospitals, rental apartments and many other social amenities, both older and newly built, are required to meet these sustainability commitments. As such, proprietors and building owners have been forced to refurbish and refit their structures, for example with lagging material to save energy.
